Rich media management

Overview

Rich media allows sellers to enhance item pages with product videos. These assets help customers better understand product features before making a purchase.

Use the Rich Media APIs to create, manage, and retrieve video assets associated with items in your catalog. Video assets can be created through Seller Center Media Library or programmatically through the API.

Market availability

Rich Media Management is currently supported only for Walmart U.S. Marketplace catalog items.

Before you start

Before creating rich media assets:

  • The item must already exist in your catalog.
  • You must know the GTIN associated with the item.
  • Media files must be publicly accessible from the URLs provided in your request.

Use cases

  • Add product videos to item pages.
  • Associate rich media assets with catalog items.
  • Retrieve previously uploaded rich media assets.
  • Delink rich media assets from catalog items.

Video

Video assets can be used to showcase product features, demonstrations, or product overview content.

Video assets include:

Each video asset must also specify a video category. Currently, the only supported video category is Product Overview.

When creating a video asset, the following fields are required:

  • richMediaVideoAssetUrl
  • richMediaVideoTitle
  • richMediaVideoCategory

The following fields are optional:

  • richMediaVideoThumbnailUrl
  • richMediaClosedCaption

Usage guidelines

Product requirements

Rich media assets can be associated with catalog items that are in New condition.

Products with compliance issues may not be published on Walmart Marketplace.

Association limits

A video asset can be associated with up to 50 catalog items. A catalog item can have one associated video.

Replacing existing assets

If a catalog item already has an associated video, submitting a new video automatically replaces the existing association. You do not need to delink the existing video before submitting the new one.

Product type restrictions

Video assets are not supported for certain regulated product types, including:

  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Tobacco and vaping products
  • Firearms, ammunition, and related accessories
  • Hunting and archery equipment
  • Paintball equipment
  • Martial arts weapons
