Onsite vs. Offsite Display
Compare Onsite and Offsite Display solutions, capabilities, and API availability.
Overview
Walmart Connect supports two Display advertising solutions:
- Onsite Display — ads served on Walmart-owned properties such as Walmart.com and the Walmart app
- Offsite Display (Walmart DSP) — ads served across the open web, gaming environments, and other offsite inventory
Understanding the difference between these solutions is important because API capabilities vary by solution.
Understanding Walmart Display solutions
Walmart-owned inventory
Onsite Display runs on Walmart-owned properties and uses an auction model to help advertisers bid on available inventory, launch campaigns, and optimize delivery.
- Served on Walmart.com and in the Walmart app
- Supports campaign management workflows
- Supports creative creation and moderation workflows
- Supports near-real-time reporting through the Stats API
- Supports finalized performance reporting through Snapshot APIs
Walmart DSP inventory
Offsite Display extends Walmart audience and measurement capabilities beyond Walmart-owned properties, helping advertisers reach customers across offsite channels.
- Powered by Walmart DSP
- Extends reach across open web, social, CTV, gaming, and more
- Supports reporting and measurement workflows
- Campaign management and creative APIs are not supported
- Availability varies by report type
How Onsite Display works
Onsite Display uses an auction-based model.
Advertisers define a bid, budget, flight dates, and targeting strategy. Walmart then evaluates available inventory and serves ads when the campaign is eligible to compete in auction.
Common use cases include:
- Always-on campaigns
- New product launches
- Audience expansion
- Bid strategy testing
- In-flight optimization
Onsite Display is the solution to use when partners need to manage campaigns, creatives, audiences, and delivery reporting through the API.
How Offsite Display works
Offsite Display, powered by Walmart DSP, extends Walmart audience capabilities beyond Walmart-owned properties.
It is designed for advertisers who want to:
- Reach customers across the open web
- Extend campaigns into gaming and other offsite environments
- Measure performance using reporting endpoints
- Understand how offsite media influences online and in-store outcomes
Offsite Display is the solution to use when partners need reporting and measurement support, but not campaign management or creative workflows.
Which solution should I integrate with?
Use Onsite Display if you need to:
- Create and manage campaigns
- Configure ad groups and targeting
- Build and submit creatives
- Use near-real-time delivery reporting
- Automate full campaign workflows
Use Offsite Display if you need to:
- Retrieve performance reporting
- Measure offsite campaign impact
- Analyze historical results
- Extend reach beyond Walmart-owned properties
Campaign management and creative APIs are not supported via the Display API.
