Automotive fitment

Manage vehicle compatibility information for automotive items on Walmart Marketplace.

Automotive fitment identifies the vehicles that are compatible with a specific automotive part or accessory. Walmart uses item identity and vehicle compatibility information to connect automotive products with applicable vehicles.

For item setup, maintain an accurate Product Brand and the manufacturer-published Manufacturer Part Number (MPN). Provide vehicle compatibility by using either standard ACES XML or the Walmart Vehicle Compatibility Excel Template.

Legacy fitment identifiers that may appear in older item specifications, such as aaiaBrandID, partTerminologyID, or walmart_fitment_brand_code, are not the recommended workflow for maintaining fitment. Use Product Brand and Manufacturer Part Number for item identity and provide compatibility through the supported fitment file workflows described below.

Before you start

Before submitting fitment data:

  • Verify that the Product Brand is correct.
  • Verify that the Manufacturer Part Number matches the manufacturer-published value exactly.
  • Choose either ACES XML or the Walmart Vehicle Compatibility Excel Template for vehicle compatibility.
  • Review the Automotive Fitment File Requirements.
  • When using the Walmart Excel workflow, use the Walmart Vehicle Compatibility Reference Guide for supported vehicle values, configurations, positions, and part types.

1. Confirm Product Brand and Manufacturer Part Number

Product Brand and Manufacturer Part Number are the primary item values Walmart uses to associate a listing with compatibility data.

The Manufacturer Part Number must match the manufacturer-published value exactly. Do not substitute a seller SKU, warehouse number, model number, or a modified part number containing additional prefixes or suffixes.

For API and approved Solution Provider integrations, map the applicable item brand and manufacturer part number fields correctly in your item feed.

Brand matching for ACES XML

For ACES XML submissions, the Product Brand associated with the Walmart item must correspond to the brand represented by the BrandAAIAID in the ACES file. If Walmart cannot associate the Product Brand with that Auto Care brand identity, fitment data might not be connected to the item.

Brand matching for the Walmart Excel template

For Walmart Vehicle Compatibility Excel submissions, the Brand Name in the compatibility file must match the Brand Name in the item's product information exactly.

2. Choose a vehicle compatibility method

Option A: ACES XML

Use ACES XML if you already create compatibility files that follow the Auto Care ACES standard.

The ACES XML file provides the brand, part, terminology, and vehicle application information used for fitment processing.

Follow these requirements:

  • Provide BrandAAIAID as required by the current fitment file specification.
  • Ensure PartNumber matches the manufacturer-published Manufacturer Part Number for the Walmart item.
  • Provide PartTerminologyID.
  • Provide the applicable vehicle application records.
  • Include applicable positions and extended vehicle configurations.
  • Follow the current Automotive Fitment File Requirements for packaging, file size, and validation rules.

The PartTerminologyID submitted through ACES may also be used by Walmart to enrich product information.

Option B: Walmart Vehicle Compatibility Excel Template

Use the Walmart Vehicle Compatibility Excel Template if you do not have an ACES XML file or an appropriate AAIA Brand ID for your brand.

Refer to the Walmart Vehicle Compatibility Reference Guide for supported vehicle values, configurations, positions, and part types.

Follow these requirements:

  • Brand Name must match the Brand Name in Walmart product information exactly.
  • Manufacturer Part Number must match the manufacturer-published value.
  • Provide the applicable Part Type.
  • Use vehicle compatibility values supported by the reference guide.
  • Copy supported values exactly as they appear in the reference guide.

3. Upload fitment files through the API

Use the Bulk Item Update API to submit supported fitment feeds.

For ACES compatibility submissions, use feed type FITMENT_ACES.

Use FITMENT_PIES only for supported PIES submissions.

Package files in the supported .zip format and follow the applicable file-size, file-type, and brand-level requirements in the Automotive Fitment File Requirements.

4. Legacy fitment attributes in older item specifications

Older item specification versions may contain fields such as aaiaBrandID, partTerminologyID, or walmart_fitment_brand_code.

For new and updated integrations, maintain Product Brand and Manufacturer Part Number in item setup and provide vehicle compatibility through the supported fitment workflows described in this guide.

5. Monitor feed processing and resolve errors

After submitting a fitment feed, use the Feed Item Status API to monitor feed processing and item-level status.

If a file or individual record does not meet the applicable requirements, processing can fail or return item-level errors. Use the Feed error report API to download the error report. Correct the reported values and resubmit the affected data.
