Walmart GoLocal Terms
The following terms are used in Walmart GoLocal.
Term | Meaning |
---|---|
Batching | Batching allows a delivery driver to carry multiple orders in a single trip. |
Chain of custody | Chain of custody is a label scanning mechanism to track and validate client orders during delivery pickups and drop-offs. This ensures delivery accuracy and reduces instances of mismatched or missing orders. |
Cold chain | Cold chain is the monitoring of the delivery time for orders that include perishable items. Cold chain is used for food handling safety. Clients can specify an order contains perishable items, and optionally that the order must be delivered within a specified time from pick up for frozen, chilled, or ambient-temperature items. The delivery time for different temperatures can be configured in Walmart Client Center for each client or pickup point. Delivery drivers are notified when carrying perishable items. If delivery drivers do not drop off the items within the specific time, the delivery drivers are automatically routed back to the pickup location. The order is canceled to ensure cold chain compliance. |
Delivery catchment | A delivery catchment is a distance-based area around a pickup point that is the area drivers deliver. The delivery catchment is the maximum driving distance from a pickup point to the delivery address. Delivery is only eligible to locations within that distance. A delivery request to an address beyond this distance will be rejected. When determining whether a delivery location is allowed, the calculation is based on an optimal driving route. This distance is specified by the client’s account administrator at the time of onboarding at the pickup point. It may be changed by the client account administrator at any time. |
Delivery IDPresented as deliveryId | A delivery ID is identifier value for each delivery. This is a Walmart GoLocal-generated identifier used to track and manage the delivery. An external order ID can be associated with multiple delivery IDs. If an order contains a large item that does not fit in a driver’s car, it can be split among multiple drivers. |
External order IDPresented as externalOrderId | An external order ID is an identifier that identifies an order in the client's system. This is a client-generated identifier used to track and manage the delivery. |
External pickup point IDPresented as externalPickupPointId | An external pickup point ID is the client-defined identification value for a client's pickup point. It is assigned at the time the pickup point is created. The value may be any value the client assigns. This flexibility for a value allows the client to assign a friendly name, or a name readily identifiable for their business. It may be different from the system-generated pickup point ID. It must still be unique from among the client's other external pickup point IDs. |
Live order tracking | Live order tracking is the capability within Walmart GoLocal that displays the delivery status and driver location in real time. See Live Order Tracking for additional information. |
One-time passcode | One-time passcode (OTP) is a security feature that may be requested of delivery drivers at the time of order delivery. If requested, the delivery driver will be required to enter a passcode provided by the customer in the delivery app before being able to deliver the order. |
Parent pickup point | A parent pickup point is the general location for a delivery that has multiple pickup points. The other locations may include the front of store or specified loading dock. The parent pickup point is not used for delivery. It sets up a hierarchy of pickup points when applicable. |
Pickup point | A pickup point is also known as the client's store or pickup location. From the pickup point, the driver receives an order then takes it to the customer's delivery drop-off location. A pickup point is used as the source of the delivery and distance when calculating the eligibility of a delivery. Large companies may have multiple pickup points within different cities, states, regions, and countries. |
Pickup point ID Presented as pickupPointId | A pickup point ID is the Walmart GoLocal generated identification number for a client's pickup point. It is assigned at the time the pickup point is created. The ID helps identify the client pickup points. |
Resolved address | A resolved address is the confirmed or validated address of a delivery. This address is based on the address provided by the client. It may be different than the client-provided address if the system confirms a more accurate address. For example, if the provided address is 123 California but the resolved address returned may be 123 West California Blvd. If there is no close or reasonable match on a client-provided address, the address is either ignored or the request returns an error message. |
Same day delivery | A same day delivery is a delivery that is scheduled for a specific day. It can occur any time on that day, even after the store has closed. The pickup ready time must be specified in the request, and the delivery will occur at any time after that. There are two exceptions. In both cases, the delivery will be made the next day if the request: - Is received less than 3.5 hours from the end of the company's delivery window (as specified in the Walmart Client Center) - Has a pickup ready time that is less than 1.25 hours from the end of the company's delivery window (as specified in the Walmart Client Center) |
Scheduled delivery | A scheduled delivery is a delivery that is scheduled for a specific day and time range. The delivery must occur within that specified time range. |
Spark Driver™ app | This is the app that the delivery service providers on the Spark Driver™ platform use to manage deliveries. |
