Live Order Tracking

Live order tracking is the capability within Walmart GoLocal that displays the order and delivery status in real time.

After the order is placed, the customer may be notified by SMS based on the following conditions:

  • The notification feature is enabled in the Walmart GoLocal platform.
  • The customer notification preference to receive text messages is sent to Walmart GoLocal in the Book Delivery request.
  • The customer agrees in the initial text to receive delivery updates via text from Walmart GoLocal.

A URL is provided with a Google map view of the driver’s location and estimated time of arrival (ETA). Both the delivery driver location and the estimated time of arrival is updated in real time. The customer also gets information about the delivery driver and the vehicle so that the customer knows who is coming to deliver their order.

Live order tracking updates during the following sequence:

  • As the delivery driver moves closer to the delivery location, the map automatically updates the route and the estimated time of arrival.
  • When the delivery driver is less than one minute away from the delivery location, the customer is informed that their order is arriving.
  • After the delivery driver has arrived at the delivery location and the order has been successfully delivered to the customer, the map and the driver details are hidden. The order tracking page goes back to displaying the status timeline and tracking overview for the customer’s reference.
  • Live order tracking ends one month after the delivery completion.

The live order tracking URL is returned from the following requests:

  • Retrieve Delivery Details Request (deliveryId)
  • Book Delivery Request
  • Search Request

We recommend passing this URL along to customers in all related communications, such as emails, SMS, or other messaging, to provide transparency on the delivery.
