Item Setup & Maintenance by Product Type, New Authentication, and Sandbox
New Releases: August and September 2023
Walmart has released API access for all 1P suppliers, along with a revised suite of item setup, maintenance APIs, and a new testing environment.
OAuth Authentication for 1P Suppliers August 2023
1P Supplier APIs have transitioned to OAuth standard token-based authentication. With token-based authentication, 1P suppliers can call Authentication API requests with a client ID and client secret values (obtained during integration) to receive an access token.
This process replaces the digital signature-based authentication process, which involves using the consumer ID private key values to generate a digital signature. Digital signature authentication will continue to be supported during this transition until a planned deprecation date by March 2024.
Item Management API’s by Product Types September 2023
Walmart has released a complete set of updated Item Management API requests to align with Walmart’s product type standards. The goal is to drive item content quality and enhance the shopping experience.
The new updates are:
-
Item Setup and Maintenance by Product Type: Enables suppliers to set up and maintain items by item product type to align the item setup and maintenance flows in Walmart’s Item 360 web app. This functionality will help improve content quality scores.
-
Setup: Physical Items for sale on eCommerce channels only through Drop Ship Vendors (DSV) or sales directly to Walmart at Walmart.com
-
Maintenance: Maintenance of any 1P item (store or e-commerce items)
-
-
Get an Item – See the Entire Item Payload: Allows suppliers to search for a single item or product. This new version includes:
-
The ability to search for an item with multiple identifiers (SKU, GTIN, EAN, ISBN, WIN, and Item ID)
-
Inclusion of content quality scores and other key attributes
-
The ability to request an entire item payload, include all product attributes, add all item configurations sold to Walmart (including cost), and detailed content quality insights
-
Sandbox (Testing) Environment: September 2023
Walmart is now offering 1P suppliers a sandbox environment to test 1P Supplier APIs prior to using the Walmart production environment. Suppliers can obtain sandbox credentials after logging into Developer Portal. Walmart plans to support Item Management APIs, Feed Status APIs, and Reporting APIs at launch.
