Item Setup & Maintenance by Product Type, New Authentication, & Sandbox

New Releases: August and September 2023

Walmart is releasing API access for all 1P suppliers, along with a revised suite of item setup and maintenance API requests and a new testing environment soon.

OAuth Authentication for 1P Suppliers: August 2023

1P Supplier APIs are transitioning to OAuth standard token-based
authentication. With token-based authentication, 1P suppliers call to
Authentication API requests with the client ID and client secret values
(obtained during integration) to get an access token.

This process replaces the digital signature-based authentication process, which involves using the consumer ID private key values to generate a digital signature. Digital signature authentication will continue to be supported during this transition until a planned deprecation date by March 2024.

Item Management API’s by Product Types: September 2023

Walmart released a complete set of updated Item Management API requests to align with Walmart’s product type standards. The goal is to drive item content quality and enhance the shopping experience.

These requests include:

  • Item Setup and Maintenance by Product Type: Enables suppliers to set up and maintain items by the items’ product types, aligning with the item setup and maintenance flows in Walmart’s Item 360 web app. This functionality intends to improve the content quality score.

    • Setup: Physical Items for sale on eCommerce channels only through drop ship vending (DSV) or sold directly to Walmart for Walmart.com

    • Maintenance: Maintain any 1P item (store or e-commerce items)

  • Get an Item – See the Entire Item Payload: Allows suppliers to search for a single item or product. This new version includes:

    • Ability to search for the item by multiple identifiers (SKU, GTIN, EAN, ISBN, WIN, and Item ID)

    • Inclusion of the content quality score and other key attributes

    • Ability to request the entire item payload as seen in Item 360, including all product attributes, all item configurations sold to Walmart (including cost), and detailed content quality insights

Sandbox (Testing) Environment: September 2023

Walmart now offers 1P suppliers a sandbox environment to test 1P Supplier APIs prior to using the Walmart production environment. Suppliers can obtain sandbox credentials after logging into Developer Portal. Walmart plans to support all Item Management Async APIs, Feed Status APIs, and Reporting APIs at launch.
