EDI Connection Types
You can use several connection types with an EDI interface:
- AS2 – secure method to transfer data reliably over the internet. It takes client and server computers that connect point-to-point over the web. AS2 creates an envelope for EDI data that allows it to be sent securely using digital certificates and encryption. Walmart sends and receives EDI files with a direct AS2 connection with the DSV.
- Value-added Network (VAN) – third-party private network provider to transfer or exchange EDI documents. Walmart sends via VAN but does not govern or dictate the data flow between VAN and DSV.
- SSH File transfer protocol (SFTP) – provides point-to-point connectivity to enable secure file transfer capabilities between networked hosts. Walmart sends and receives EDI files with a direct SFTP connection with the DSV.
- Solution Provider – a third party that provides EDI process capability to its partners. Walmart will send and receive EDI files via the Solution Provider or AS2 connectivity but does not govern or dictate the data flow between the Solution Provider and DSV.
