Sponsored Brands API Workflow Guide
Learn how to set up a Sponsored Brands campaign with approved Brand Assets.
Sponsored Brands, previously known as Search Brand Amplifier (SBA), is a premium placement that showcases your brand and a curated product portfolio to customers actively searching Walmart’s site and app for products like yours.
Sponsored Brands ads feature an optional custom image, a brand logo, a custom headline, a call-to-action, and up to four items with shoppable links.
Requirements
Before creating a Sponsored Brands campaign, you must create one or more Brand Assets and ensure they are reviewed and approved. Go to the Brand Asset Workflow Guide to learn how to create a Brand Asset and receive approval following a review.
You can create a Sponsored Brands campaign if you are:
- a Walmart Marketplace seller registered as a brand owner in the Walmart Brand Portal.
- a Walmart supplier who has registered their brand on Supplier One.
Create Sponsored Brands Campaign
Use the POST /campaigns endpoint to create a campaign. Set the campaignType to “sba” and the targetingType to “manual”.
Add Ad Group to the Campaign with Approved Brand Assets
Before creating an ad group, ensure that your Brand Assets have been created, reviewed, and approved. Go to the Brand Asset Workflow Guide to learn how to create a Brand Asset and obtain approval following a review.

Use the POST /adGroups endpoint to create an ad group, specifying the campaign ID you created in the previous steps.
a. Each Sponsored Brands ad group is limited to one Brand Asset, and each Sponsored Brands campaign is limited to one ad group.

If necessary, replace a Brand Asset from an existing ad group using the PUT /adGroups endpoint. Only one Brand Asset and one ad group are allowed per campaign. The campaign must be paused before replacing the Brand Asset. Campaigns must be re-submitted for review if replacing a Brand Asset.

Add Items to an Ad Group
- Use the POST /adItems endpoint to add items to your ad group.
- If the campaign has already been approved, you must pause the campaign before updating items. After updating items, the campaign must be resubmitted for review.
Add Keywords to the Campaign
Use the POST /keywords endpoint to add keywords to your campaign. Optionally, you can use the Keyword Recommendations API to obtain keyword suggestions.
Notes:
- Each ad group can have up to 200 distinct bidded keywords. For each keyword, 1 to 3 match types may be enabled.
- If a Sponsored Brands campaign has already been reviewed and approved, you must pause the campaign to add new keywords. After adding new keywords, the campaign must be resubmitted for review and approval.
Submit Sponsored Brands Campaign Review
Once you've completed the campaign setup and added an approved Brand Asset, you can submit the campaign for review. A Sponsored Brands campaign's items and keywords must be reviewed and approved before it can go live.

Submit the campaign for review with the POST /review endpoint.

Check the status of the campaign review with the GET /review endpoint.
a. Reviews are typically completed within 1-3 days, except during periods of higher review volume.
b. Reviews will provide an approval or rejection outcome for each item and keyword added to the campaign. -
While the
reviewStatusis "pending" or "in-progress", the following operations are allowed:a. updating keyword bids
b. updating campaign budget
c. updating campaign’s end date
d. disabling an item/keyword
e. canceling the review -
Optionally, you can cancel a review using the PUT /review endpoint.
You must cancel and resubmit a campaign review when:a. Adding or re-enabling items or keywords or replacing a Brand Asset

When the
reviewStatusis "complete", you'll receive comments for any rejected items.a. For each rejected item, you will receive a review reason. If it is “Other”, then refer to review comments in review response for more details.
b. For rejected bidded keywords, you will receive a review reason as part of the review response. -
After a review approval, the Sponsored Brands campaign automatically goes live at the scheduled start date.
Migrate Existing Sponsored Brands Campaigns using Brand Profile
Existing brand profile endpoints will be deprecated. For exact deprecation dates and list of APIs to be deprecated, go to the deprecation log.
To migrate your existing brand profile campaigns to support Brand Asset Manager, complete the following:

Pause the campaign using the
pausedstatus via PUT /campaigns. -
Disable the brand profile via PUT /v2/sba_profile.

Add a Brand Asset to a campaign via PUT /adGroups.
Additional Requirements
- Sponsored Brands campaigns with a
pausedorproposalstatus cannot change toenabledunless the campaign has been approved by review and at least one of the following criteria is met:
- Sponsored Brands Profile active and approved
- An approved Brand Asset attached to the ad group - Sponsored Brands campaigns with a
completedstatus cannot update toextendunless at least one of the following criteria is met:
- Sponsored Brands Profile active and approved
- An approved Brand Asset attached to the ad group - Following a review, Sponsored Brands campaigns will not automatically go live at the start date unless one of the following criteria is met:
- Sponsored Brands Profile active and approved
- An approved Brand Asset attached to the ad group
